Edward Altman is the Max L. Heine Professor of Finance Emeritus at NYU’s Stern School of Business and serves as Director of the Credit and Fixed Income Research Program at the NYU Salomon Center. Widely regarded as one of the world’s leading authorities on corporate bankruptcy, distressed debt, high-yield bonds, and credit risk analysis, Altman has shaped modern credit research for more than five decades. He is best known as the creator of the Altman Z-Score, the influential quantitative model used globally to assess bankruptcy risk and evaluate corporate financial health. His groundbreaking work has made the Z-Score a standard tool in financial analysis, investment management, and risk assessment. A pioneer in academic finance, Altman co-founded and serves as Executive Editor of the Journal of Banking and Finance. He has authored or edited more than twenty books and published over one hundred articles in leading finance, accounting, and economics journals. Beyond academia, he has consulted for government agencies, major financial institutions, and corporations worldwide, and has delivered executive lectures across North America, Europe, Asia, and Latin America.
