Barry Banister is a Managing Director and Chief Equity Strategist for Stifel, one of the nation's leading full-service investment banking and financial services firms. In his role, Barry leads the firm’s Equity macro and sector strategy research, providing investment research to financial institutions globally in the areas of engineering, machinery, and associated strategy related to commodity markets served by companies in those industries. He has been an Equity research analyst for over 33 years, primarily covering the machinery, construction and engineering sectors. Previously, he was an analyst at Legg Mason Capital Markets, S.G. Warburg & Co., First Tennessee Investment Management, and AmSouth Investment Management (now Regions Financial). Over the course of his career, Barry has been recognized multiple times as a top stock picker and earnings estimator by The Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, Forbes, and StarMine.
EARLY CAREER
Barry joined Stifel Nicolaus Research Team in connection with Stifel's acquisition of Legg Mason's Capital Markets Group in December of 2005.
He provided equity research to predecessor firms from 1992 to 2010, primarily working in Machinery and Engineering & Construction.
He was a senior analyst providing North American machinery industry coverage and later co-head of U.S. equity research of S.G. Warburg & Company.
He served as a senior equity analyst for the buy-side firm First Tennessee Investment Management/Highland Capital Management.
Prior, he was an equity analyst for the mutual funds and trusts of AmSouth Investment Management, now Regions Financial.
