R. Martin Chavez is the Vice Chairman and Partner of Sixth Street, a global investment firm with over $100 billion under management. He works on Sixth Street’s research and development; diversity and inclusion; the sourcing engine; and the More Than Capital business, driving deeper engagement with the portfolio companies. Chavez is a Silicon Valley Tech extraordinaire, influential business leader, and champion of diversity—both in the workplace and the community. He is one of the highest-ranking Hispanic and openly gay executives on Wall Street, and serves as an advisor and board member to multiple startups and projects that are accelerating breakthroughs in their fields. For the past 35 years, Martin has used data, math, software, and machine learning to solve hard problems for clients and stakeholders.
He has achieved singular acclaim in the financial-services industry for his work on SecDB, and for bringing the front and back offices together.
He has long held a passion for converging the life sciences and software, and has an eye for new applications of AI and technology that will transform industries.
Chavez first joined Goldman Sachs in 1993 in the J. Aron Currency and Commodities Division as a Senior Energy Strategist.
He also served as the firm's Chief Information Officer, responsible for the Technology Division and jointly responsible with divisional leadership for the firm’s global strategists.
He was a member of the Management Committee, Firmwide Capital Committee, Firmwide Risk Committee and Steering Committee on Regulatory Reform.

Martin is a respected business leader with extensive experience across finance and technology.
He co-founded San Francisco start-up Quorum Software Systems, where he was Chief Technology Officer, and he was CEO and Co-Founder of Kiodex (acquired by Sungard).
He also served on the board of directors of Grupo Santander; the Institute for Advanced Study, the International Swaps and Derivatives Association (ISDA), Paige.AI, PNM Resources, Inc., Recursion Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:RXRX), and Sema4.
EQUALITY
Martin pioneered the formation of the LGBT Network at Goldman Sachs, and successfully urged leadership at the firm to expand benefits to gay partners.
He also supported CEO Lloyd Blankfein as he engaged on LGBT issues and became one of the first US corporate leaders to support same-sex marriage.
He has helped organize and host a full program of workshops and roadshows to educate and sensitize employees to LGBT issues at the workplace, targeting all levels and divisions with a view to enable all employees to bring their whole self to the workplace.
