Dan Loeb is a prominent value and activist investor, hedge fund manager and philanthropist. He is the CEO and Chief Investment Officer of Third Point LLC, a New York-based hedge fund he founded in 1995. Loeb has been at the forefront of investing in equities, credit and venture capital throughout his career. He is known for launching activist campaigns against corporate boards, shaking up companies in various industries and countries. He has also served on numerous public company boards where he has driven substantial value to shareholders. Prior to Third Point, he worked on both the buy and the sell sides for over a decade, gaining dedicated experience in distressed debt, high yield bond sales, risk arbitrage and private investments.

  • As CEO and CIO, he leads Third Point in investing in equity and credit securities in U.S. and international markets. 

  • In addition to offering behind-the-scenes advice to numerous companies, he has served on five publicly traded company boards: Ligand Pharmaceuticals; POGO Producing Co.; Massey Energy; Yahoo!; and Sotheby’s, where he helped oversee the successful sale of the company.

  • Recently, Third Point sold 900,000 shares of Alphabet Class A stock to exit its position in the last quarter of 2023.

  • He also significantly cut Third Point's stake in Uber and trimmed holdings in other tech companies, including Amazon, Microsoft and Taiwan Semiconductor. Meta was the only tech company to see an increase in share count over Q4.
