Jim Walker is the Chief Economist at Aletheia Capital, an independent research platform focusing on the Asia Pacific region. Prior to this, he founded the Asianomics Group, an economics and strategy research consultancy company primarily servicing the fund management industry. Walker developed an approach to analyzing Asian economies based on profit and credit cycles. The application of this approach enabled him to call early the upswing in the Indian stock market in the final quarter of 2013. These models are currently signaling a buy on China, Japan, Vietnam, and Malaysia.

  • In 1995, Walker wrote about the prospect of Asia being forced off its de facto dollar peg “within the next two-three years”.
  • The Asian Crisis, precipitated by the Thai baht devaluation, began in July 1997.
  • He forecasted the US 2007 downturn and financial sector meltdown in his series of ‘Apocalypse’ reports.
  • He remains deeply skeptical of the prevailing wisdom in central banks’ approach to monetary policy.
  • He has appeared as a guest on Real Vision.
