Craig Stobo is a professional director and business adviser with a successful career as a diplomat, economist, investment banker, fund manager, CIO and CEO spanning more than 25 years of international experience. With vast government and private sector experience, his key areas of expertise include business advice, investment direction, government advice and implementation, capital raising, B2B consulting, and directing companies. Craig is a professional, independent director of Precinct Properties, AIG NZ and the NZ Local Government Funding Agency and has authored reports for both local and central government. He maintains a financial interest in a number of other companies, including global equity fund manager Elevation Capital, specialist vineyard Legend Terrace and oyster farmer and exporter Biomarine Group. Additionally, Craig is a Chartered Fellow of the Institute of Directors and an Associate Member of the CFA Society.

Professional Experience


Academic History

  • Under his management, Bankers Trust grew to $3B AUM and won Best Place to Work in NZ and was Fund Manager of the Year twice.

  • As Chairman of Saturn Advice, Craig works to ensure the interests of stakeholders are carefully considered and responsibly managed.

  • In 2004 Craig authored the report on Taxation of Investment Income for Finance Minister Dr Cullen laying the groundwork for the rollout of the PIE taxation regime.

  • He chaired the task force which reported to PMĀ  John Key on Exporting Financial Services which led to the creation of foreign investor PIEs.

  • He helped to establish the NZ Local Government Funding Agency in 2011 to provide cheaper, more accessible funding for Councils in NZ.

  • He chaired Fliway Group during its IPO on the NZX, and its subsequent delisting followed its acquisition by Singaporean interests under a Scheme of Arrangement.
