Austin Root is the Chief Investment Officer of Stansberry Asset Management, a leading investment advisory firm. In this role, he oversees the development and management of investment strategies across all client portfolios. Before joining SAM, he served as Director of Research at Stansberry Research and was the Portfolio Manager for its flagship offering, Stansberry Portfolio Solutions. Root’s Wall Street career includes senior roles at SAC Capital Advisors, The Blackstone Group, and North Oak Capital, the latter of which received strategic backing from legendary hedge fund manager Julian Robertson and Tiger Global Management. With deep experience spanning public equities, derivatives, venture capital, private equity, real estate, and fixed income, Root brings a comprehensive, multi-asset perspective to wealth and portfolio management.

Austin Root is the Chief Investment Officer of Stansberry Asset Management, where he oversees the design and management of investment strategies across all firm portfolios.
At Stansberry Research, he served as Editor and Portfolio Manager for the firm’s flagship Stansberry Portfolio Solutions products, while also holding dual roles as Director of Research and Director of Corporate Development.
In these positions, he led a team of more than 30 analysts and editors in producing world-class financial and investment research, oversaw the firm’s idea-generation process, and guided strategic corporate initiatives.
EARLY CAREER
Before joining Stansberry Research, Root built a distinguished career across Wall Street and asset management.
He was a Partner and Portfolio Manager at D.F. Dent & Co., a Baltimore-based adviser specializing in high-quality growth companies.
Earlier, he was Managing Partner of North Oak Capital, an investment management firm backed by Tiger Global Management, where he delivered strong returns, generating positive results each year for every investor and consistently outperforming hedge fund benchmarks.
Root also held roles as a Portfolio Manager at SAC Capital Advisors and an Associate at Soros Private Equity Partners, and began his career as an Investment Banking Analyst at The Blackstone Group.
