Andrew Beer is the Founder and Managing Member of Dynamic Beta Investments, a pioneer and specialist in hedge fund replication. He also serves as Co-Portfolio Manager of DBi’s investment strategies, including UCITs funds listed in Europe as well as the iM DBi Hedge Strategy ETF and the iM DBi Managed Futures Strategy ETF. Andrew has nearly 30 years of experience in the hedge fund industry. For the past decade and a half, he has focused on how to deliver hedge fund returns with daily liquidity, lower fees, less downside risk and better performance. He started in the hedge fund industry in 1994 when he joined the Baupost Group as one of six generalist Portfolio Managers working for Seth Klarman. He was later the Founding Partner of three hedge fund firms in areas ranging from derivatives arbitrage to fundamental commodity investing to cross-border trading in Asia.

DBI

  • DBi is well-known for its research on hedge funds, liquid alternatives, managed futures, and related strategies. 

  • The firm’s main liquid alternative strategies, equity hedge, managed futures and multi-strategy, seek to outperform actual hedge fund indices by targeting “pre-fee” hedge fund performance through liquid futures and ETFs.

  • Today, DBi manages approximately $2.2 billion across eight funds that encompass a US partnership, ETFs, UCITS funds and a vehicle for Japanese investors. 


EARLY CAREER

  • Andrew has been in the hedge fund business since 1994, when he joined the Baupost Group, Inc., one of the world’s premier hedge fund firms.

  • He later founded successful hedge funds on commodities and relative value arbitrage in the Greater China region. 

  • In 2003, he was a co-founder of and, through a family investment company, the lead initial investor in Pinnacle Asset Management and related entities, a leading commodity investment firm and recipient of numerous industry awards. 

  • He was also a founder of Apex Capital Management, one of the earliest hedge funds focused on the Greater China crisis. 

  • Earlier in his career, he was a mergers and acquisitions investment banker at James D. Wolfensohn Inc.
