John Embry is Chief Investment Strategist at Sprott Asset Management, a global asset manager providing investors with access to highly-differentiated precious metals and real assets investment strategies. He plays an instrumental role in developing the corporate and investment policy of the firm, with a focus on the Sprott Gold and Precious Minerals Fund. John is an industry expert in precious metals who has studied the global sector for over 30 years and has accumulated industry experience as a portfolio management specialist for over 45 years. Prior to joining Sprott in 2003, John spent 15 years as Vice President of Equities at RBC Global Investment Management, a $33 billion organization. At RBC, he oversaw $5 billion in assets, including the flagship $2.9 billion Royal Canadian Equity Fund and the $250 million Royal Precious Metals Fund, the #1 ranked fund across the country for its 2002 net performance of 153%.
EARLY CAREER
John began his investment career as a stock selection analyst and portfolio manager at Great West Life, later on becoming Vice President of Pension Investments for the entire firm.
After 23 years with Great West, he became a partner with United Bond and Share, the investment counseling firm acquired by Royal Bank in 1987.
At RBC, he managed $5 billion in assets, including RBC Canadian Equity and RBC Precious Metals.
APPOINTMENTS
He has been a Director of Sprott Resource Corp. since 2007. He has served as a Director of Sprott Resource Lending Corp. since 2010.
He served as Co-Chairman of Central GoldTrust until 2010 and served as its Trustee from 2003 until 2010.
