The iShares Core MSCI Emerging Markets ETF is the younger, cheaper variation on BlackRock’s flagship iShares MSCI Emerging Markets ETF. IEMG debuted in 2012 as part of the new ultra-low-cost iShares Core series designed to attract buy-and-hold investors, measuring large-, mid- and small-cap equity market performance in the global emerging markets. This fund tracks the MSCI Emerging Markets Investable Market Index, which includes stocks of all sizes from 24 emerging markets. Its market-cap-weighted approach benefits investors by capturing the market's collective opinion of each stock’s value while mitigating turnover and trading costs.

  • IShares Core MSCI Emerging Markets ETF is a broad low-cost fund, but it is still exposed to emerging-markets-specific risks that may not be compensated.

  • It earns a Morningstar Analyst Rating of Bronze.

  • MSCI began adding locally traded Chinese A-shares to the fund’s target index over the past few years, further expanding its reach.

  • This is one of the least-expensive funds, and its rock-bottom price tag should provide a durable advantage.
