Matthew Byer is Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer of Spectrum Asset Management, one of the largest money managers in the world specializing in the preferred and capital securities market. Prior to joining Spectrum, Matthew was a Vice President and Director of Investment Banking at AG Edwards where he served as a senior member of the Financial Services Group for 8 years. He was also head of the bank practice within the financial institutions and real estate group focused on banks and fintech companies. He began his career in 1991 as an Attorney with Armstrong Teasdale, where his practice included the representation of issuers and underwriters of preferred securities.
Prior to his current role, he was Senior Vice President with responsibilities for various areas of business and product development, client relations and asset management.
Matthew was President and COO of United Sports Equities, an independent professional baseball league and real estate development company.
At AG Edwards, Matthew was also involved in public offerings and private placements of equity and debt securities and M&A transactions.
At Armstrong Teasdale, he was involved in corporate, securities, mergers and acquisitions, and real estate practices.
He holds a BS in Mathematics and JD from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and is a Member of the Missouri and Illinois bar.
He holds FINRA Series 7 and National Futures Association Series 3 designations.
