Spokane is located in the heart of the Inland Northwest and is the second most populous city in Washington. The Spokane area can be characterized by hills, plains, prairies, and coniferous forests. Mount Spokane is the highest peak near the city. Serving as the major hub for the Inland Northwest for its service industries, wholesale and retail trade, medical industries, education, and entertainment, there are also almost 30 million acres of profitable forests in the Spokane range. The city hosts many great community events, festivals and gatherings, and is home to the Lilac Bloomsday Run, the largest-timed road race in the nation, and the largest three-on-three basketball tournament, Hoopfest.
