Brett Caughran is the Founder and Lead Trainer at Fundamental Edge, a leading investment research training firm focused on accelerating the development of world-class buy-side analysts through structured, practical education. In addition to his work at Fundamental Edge, Brett serves as an Adjunct Professor at Arizona State University, where he teaches Applied Value Investing, bridging real-world investing principles with academic rigor. Before founding Fundamental Edge, he spent 13 years on the buy side at some of the world’s most prestigious hedge funds and investment firms, including Maverick Capital, D.E. Shaw Group, Citadel, Two Sigma, and Schonfeld, gaining extensive experience across multiple investment styles and research processes.

EARLY CAREER

  • Caughran built his investment expertise across multiple top-tier firms. 

  • He served as a Portfolio Manager at Schonfeld, focusing on long/short equity strategies, and helped Two Sigma establish its fundamental investing business as a consultant.

  • He also managed healthcare-focused portfolios at Citadel and D.E. Shaw Group, and earlier in his career, he was a Managing Director at Maverick Capital, gaining extensive buy-side experience across sectors and investment strategies.
