Bowdoin College is a private liberal arts college that offers over 40 majors. Although more than 40% of the student body major in social sciences, its academic curriculum includes a first-year seminar and a full credit course in five different areas, including inquiry in the natural sciences and mathematical, computational, or statistical reasoning. Bowdoin enrolls approximately 1,850 students from across the country and around the world.

  • The first class began in 1802 and comprised just eight students.
  • After receiving an expansive library and art collection, the Bowdoin’s gallery became one of America’s first art museums in 1812.
