Manganese

Acronym
Mn
Parent Asset Class

A hard, brittle, silvery metal mainly used in alloys particularly in stainless steel, Manganese increases steel’s strength and improves its workability and resistance to wear. Found in minerals in combination with iron, Manganese steel contains about 13% manganese. This is extremely strong and is used for railway tracks, safes, rifle barrels and prison bars. With aluminium, antimony and copper it forms highly magnetic alloys. It is also used to make fertilisers and ceramics.
