Daniel Miller is Professor of Anthropology and the founder of the digital anthropology programme at University College of London. Over the past years, he has run two ERC-funded global projects, including Why We Post, devoted to the study of social media, and The Anthropology of Smartphones and Smart Ageing, which has tried to develop an alternative anthropological approach to mHealth. Miller is an anthropologist who is closely associated with studies of human relationships to things, the consequences of consumption and digital anthropology. He is one of the leading experts on material culture, a pioneer of digital anthropology, and is considered the founder of the anthropology of consumption. In addition, he has pioneered ethnographic research on the use and consequences of social media and smartphones as part of the everyday life of ordinary people around the world.
