Professional Experience

Academic History

BRAVE

  • In addition to founding Brave Software, Brendan Eich introduced the Basic Attention Token (BAT), a groundbreaking blockchain-based digital advertising system that rewards users for their attention while compensating content creators directly, bypassing traditional intermediaries.

  • Under Eich’s leadership, Brave has grown to over 65 million monthly active users as of 2025, establishing itself as a major privacy-focused alternative to mainstream browsers like Google Chrome and Safari.

  • The platform has expanded beyond browsing, launching Brave Search, a privacy-preserving search engine, and integrating native crypto wallets, enabling users to seamlessly interact with Web3 applications.

MOZILLA

  • Eich played a pivotal role in the formation of the Mozilla Project, later co-founding both the Mozilla Foundation and the Mozilla Corporation.

  • He helped lead the development of Firefox, the open-source browser that challenged proprietary incumbents and promoted open web standards—a foundational shift that fueled the rise of cloud computing and SaaS (Software-as-a-Service).

  • In 2014, Eich briefly served as CEO of Mozilla but resigned following public controversy surrounding his past support of Proposition 8, a California ballot initiative opposing same-sex marriage.

EARLY TECH CAREER

  • Eich began his career at Silicon Graphics, where he was exposed to the principles of open-source development.

  • In 1995, while working at Netscape Communications, he created JavaScript in just ten days, enabling dynamic, interactive content on the web and revolutionizing front-end development.

  • His creation became the foundation for modern web applications, powering everything from dynamic websites to enterprise-grade SaaS platforms.

  • Eich also played a key role in shaping ECMAScript, the standardized version of JavaScript, influencing its evolution for nearly three decades.
