Jim Leech is the 14th Chancellor of Queen's University. He is a pension fund executive, financial services entrepreneur, and philanthropic leader who worked with charitable groups and advised both federal and provincial governments. Leech is best known for his contributions as an innovator in pension management and for his writings on the subject of retirement funding. During his business career, Leech gained global recognition for his expertise and leadership in the pension management and private equity industries.

Professional Experience


Academic History

  • Leech retired in 2014 following a 45-year military and business career.
  • He was a Special Advisor to the Ontario Minister of Finance concerning electricity sector pension sustainability. 
  • He was a member of Canada’s largest expedition to ski to the magnetic north pole to raise awareness and funds for Canadian military veterans suffering from the post-traumatic stress disorder.
  • He has appeared as a guest on Real Vision.
