Dow Jones Composite Average

The Dow Jones Composite Average is the stock market index composed of 65 prominent companies, maintained and tracked by S&P Dow Jones Indices. The index is made up of the 30 stocks that form the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA), 20 stocks that make up the Dow Jones Transportation Average (DJTA), and 15 stocks of the Dow Jones Utility Average (DJUA). Since the Composite Average is made up of this select group of prominent stocks, Dow Jones refers to it as a blue chip microcosm of the US stock market. The Dow Jones 65 Composite, like the three sub-indexes, is price-weighted.
