Barry Bannister is Managing Director and Chief Equity Strategist for Stifel, one of the nation's leading full-service investment banking and financial services firms. In his roles, Barry leads the firm’s equity macro and sector strategy research, providing investment research to financial institutions globally in the areas of engineering, machinery, and associated strategy related to commodity markets served by companies in those industries. Barry has been an equity research analyst for over 30 years. Previously, he was an analyst at Legg Mason Capital Markets, S G Warburg & Co (now UBS), First Tennessee Investment Management, and AmSouth Investment Management (now Regions Financial). He has been recognized multiple times as a top stock picker and earnings estimator by The Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, Forbes, and StarMine.

STIFEL

  • Barry joined the Stifel Nicolaus Research Team in connection with Stifel's acquisition of Legg Mason's Capital Markets Group in December of 2005

  • Prior to his current role, he provided research for Stifel Equity Research and predecessor firms 1992-2010 in Machinery and Engineering & Construction. 


EARLY CAREER

  • Prior to joining Legg Mason in 1998, he was a senior analyst providing North American machinery industry coverage and later co-head of U.S. equity research in the New York office of the UK investment bank S.G. Warburg & Company.

  • Before that, he served as a senior equity analyst for the buy-side firm FTIM/Highland Capital Management.

  • He was an equity analyst for the mutual funds and trusts of AmSouth Investment Management (now Regions Financial).

  • Barry has been recognized with a number of industry honors for earnings estimates, earnings accuracy, and stock picking.
