Tad Smith is a Partner and Co-Founder of 1RoundTable Partners, a growth equity fund, and its predecessor firm, 10T Holdings. Smith is a business executive who has led the transformation of numerous companies. He has decades of senior operating experience at the intersection of disruptive technologies and traditional business models across a range of B2B and B2C industries. He has served as CEO of two famous New York Stock Exchange-listed companies: Sotheby's and The Madison Square Garden Company. Since 1999, Smith has served as an Adjunct Professor at the Stern School of Business at New York University, where he teaches a popular course on strategy for technology, media, and entertainment companies. He has also served on numerous industry and nonprofit boards and advisory boards.

SOTHEBY'S & MSG COMPANY

  • He was President and CEO of Sotheby's, where he successfully digitized, modernized, expanded, and then sold the company in 2019. 

  • He foresaw the application of artificial intelligence to match buyers and sellers of art as well as improve pricing.

  • He grew and digitized the NYSE-listed global auction house before selling it for $3.7 billion.

  • He oversaw the overall strategy and day-to-day operations of MSG Sports, MSG Media and MSG Entertainment


EARLY CAREER

  • He served as President of Local Media at Cablevision, responsible for Cablevision Media Sales, News 12 Networks, and Newsday Media Group. 

  • Smith was the CEO of TheKey, formerly Home Care Assistance, the largest privately paid provider of in-home care.

  • He worked for the global media company now known as RELX, where he last served as CEO of the US business-to-business division, Reed business-to-business Information.

  • He was SVP of E-Commerce at Starwood Hotels and Resorts, and a corporate executive in New York and London for music company, BMG Entertainment.

  • He also advised companies on strategy and performance improvement in McKinsey & Company’s Los Angeles office.
