The Disability Fund pays Social Security assistance to those who are physically or mentally incapable of gainful employment. Spouses and children of recipients may also receive benefits. Neither Congress nor the President can use the Trust Funds’ receipts and disbursements toward the federal budget. This prohibition is known as a special budgetary status.

Under the new estimates the Social Security Disability Insurance Trust Fund (DI) is expected to stay solvent until 2052 instead 2032 computed a year ago. If the Fund runs out of money, beneficiaries would receive 91 percent of their usual checks. (circa 2019)
